Sebut saja Robson yg sebenarnya itu namanya jalan. Di situ anda akan ketemu berbagai macam toko (ada GAP, Old Navy, American Eagle, etc), kafe, restoran, dll.

If you bring a map of transportation Vancouver (you can pick it up wherever - at Travel Info Centre, UBC, Malls, etc) with your hand and you're asked to get on skytrain . You better know about route of skytrain (based on the map, there are 2 lines, Skytrain Expo Line and Skytrain Millennium Line - you can check out Transportation Vancouver map if you have).

Saya drop di Broadway & Commercial Dr (saling berdekatan) untuk turun naik bis yang menuju ke UBC.

Anda tidak usah kuatir kapan harus turun karena sudah ada papan nama rote yang akan memberitahukan bahwa anda harus / bisa turun. Bila anda ingin ke Metrotown (ada sebuah mall), sudah pasti ada papan yang tertulis metrotown dan lalu anda turun di situ dan siap2 menuju ke Metrotown Mall.

So here is my turn to make homework for fun :p

1. Two Beds.
To tell you the truth, I don't actually have my own bedroom although I've always been dreaming of owning my own bedroom. So, why 2 beds? All right, one bed where I go for bed at night, I'll be fast asleep when sheet and pillowcase must be neat and clean (I really hate when guests enter and then sit down or lay on the bed - Also, I myself won't do it, instead, sit down on floor or couch), wear a tight suit (not too tight), and use a blanket. Again, one another where I can take a nap or get rest, I can freely lay on the bed without changing my outfit. If there is just one bed, I'd like to have a bedspread. It sounds odd? :p

Dua Tempat tidur.
Dengan jujur, saya sebenarnya gak punya kamar sendiri walaupun saya selalu bermimpi untuk punya satu ini. Jadi, mengapa 2 tempat tidur? Ok, saya akan bisa tidur di atas tempat tidur dengan sprei dan sarung bantal yang harus benar-benar rapi dan bersih. Saya benci ketika orang lain masuk dan lalu duduk seenaknya atau berbaring di atas tempat tidur (karena kotor bajunya). Saya gak akan melakukan seperti itu. Sebagai penggantinya, saya akan duduk di lantai atau bangku / sofa. Saya juga memakai baju tidur yang agak sedikit ketat dan memakai selimut. Dan satu lagi, saya biasanya kalo mau istirahat / bermalas2an ato tidur siang, saya akan bebas berbaring di tempat tidur tanpa harus mengganti baju lainnya. Akan tetapi bila ada hanya satu tempat tidur, saya akan memakai bedspread. Kedengarannya aneh ya?? :p

2. Foods at Home.
I've always wanted to be a very great cooker, but ... I just always feel bad for maids. I can't not to give foods/cakes/snacks for them. Perhaps, it's because I stayed at dormitory for nine years (from 5 to 14 years of age) and I can really imagine how hungry I am or how hungry people are. I really hate knowing that, for example, people give cakar ayam or kepala ayam to maids. Oh, no, I won't give like it. But if I want to eat very delicious foods, I choose to eat out without feeling guilty. Sometimes, I dream of not having the maids, but .. dunno!!

Makanan di rumah.
Aduuh pingin jago masak, tp kenapa ya saya suka ngerasa gak enak hati kalo gak ngasih makanan/kue/snack kepada maids (or servicers, u must know what I meant). Mungkin karena saya dulunya pernah tinggal di asrama selama 9 tahun (dari umur 5 - 14 tahun), saya bisa membayangkan betapa laparnya saya atau orang lain. Saya benci kalo orang yang ngasih cakar ayam atau kepala ayam kepada mereka. Saya gak akan memberi seperti itu. Pada suatu hari saya ingin makan yang enak2, ya mendingan pergi makan di luar saja deh, biar gak ngerasa bersalah. Kadang, saya ingin gak punya maids, tp .. entahlah !!

3. Daily / Weekly Resolutions. To do what I want or have to accomplish.

Daftar Harian ato Mingguan. Untuk melakukan apa yang mau / harus saya selesaikan / capaikan.

4. Don't have a credit card. (hide my head, do I need?? huhahaha .. not really care about it). But to be honest, I'd really like to get one someday.

Tidak punya kartu kredit. (Cuek ah !!) Tp saya sangat ingin punya nantinya.

5. Insomnia.
I won't be able to go for bed if I know there is something that not be accomplished yet. Or get stressed out as well. Huh !!

Gak bisa tidur.
Saya gak akan bisa tidur bila tahu ada hal lainnya yang belum saya capaikan. Ato juga kalo saya lg stress. Huh !!

6. Being careful what I want to say to others. I believe in HUKUM KARMA very much. Sigh!

Lebih hati-hati ketika saya mau mengatakan apapun ke orang lain karena saya sangat percaya pada hukum karma. Duuh!!

7. A big house. Oh, no !!
Don't understand why I don't want to have the big house. But not too small, too. If I can, I'd really like to be nomadic. Hahaha .. just fairy tale !! :p

Rumah gede. Oh, tidak!!
Gak ngerti kenapa saya gak mau punya rumah gede. Tp jg jangan terlalu kecil banget. Kl bisa, saya ingin jadi pengembara. Hahaha ... Hanya khayalan !! :p

8. Be a hitchhiker many times.
Yes, it can be dangerous. You should be careful, I remind you.
It happened when I was traveling in Canada. I, actually, hate to be like it so much. But I did when I didn't have any choices, or I wanted to make it for fun. Btw, I wish I didn't do it anymore someday. It wastes so much time and so tiring.

Sudah beberapa kali jadi penumpang di mobil orang yang gak dikenal.
Yeah, itu bisa aja sangat berbahaya. Anda harus hati-hati, saya peringatkan anda!
Itu terjadi ketika saya sedang berpergian di Canada. Saya sebetulnya gak suka tp saya terpaksa ato hanya isenk. Tp saya berharap gak akan melakukannya lagi di suatu saat lain. Itu akan terbuang banyak waktu dan sangat melelahkan.

9. Hate Writing Essays.
I'm not good at that. Hate to be asked to write formal style. Aaarrggghh !!

Benci menulis esay.
Saya gak berbakat untuk satu itu. Benci bila diminta untuk menulis dengan gaya formal. Aaarrrggghhh !!

10. Blogging in English.
Sometimes get confused of which language I better use, my mother language or English or both. It depends on my mood which one I want to use, but .. basically, because I took a course of English and suffer from ...., so I think I should practice much more and improve well. I, honestly, hate what I write in English. Sounds very intermediate! Wanted that looks like advanced style, but ... it's my writing style.

Blogging dengan English.
Kadang bingung yang mana bahasa sebaiknya saya pake, bahasa ibu ato English ato keduanya. Itu tergantung mood saya mana bahasa saya mau pake. Tapi .. pada dasarnya, karena saya dulunya pernah kursus English dan menderita ... makanya saya sebaiknya latihan lebih banyak dan mengembangkan lebih baik lagi (Huh, sok kale ya??). Jujur, saya benci dengan gaya penulisannya saya. Bahasanya kayak anak SD. Maunya sih kayak yg advanced2 gitu deh. Tp itulah gaya bahasa saya.

Jakarta is one of those cities that I hate when I first touched down. But as soon as I hopped on the plane back home, I wanted so bad to fly back there again.

It's a copy that I accidentally found from a Malaysian blogger, Kennysia. He's been to Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali. He has a great sense of humour, so his blog can a bit be funny to read. I really appreciate what he was feeling when he traveled around in Jakarta.

Since then, I decided to make a short article of Jakarta, it's just for who has a plan to travel as a solo traveler or backpacker to Jakarta. Hopefully, my Jakarta articles can be helpful for you all.

But you should know that Mangga Dua Mall has some buildings.
One named ITC Mangga Dua where sold outfits, shoes,sandals,bags, toys, etc.
One again named Harco Mas Mangga Dua which sold electronic, computer, and sparepart.
Those malls you can bargain price, but there are some prices you can't bargain, for example,DVDs movie and music, softwares.

You should be careful because those malls too crowded.

Well, for who wants to know about how Indonesian treats when a baby is born, this is a short story that I will try the best.

I remember feeling so excited for my first nephew from my big bro. I was so motivated to create design for bag (see below - red bag) with photo shop. However, back to see that red bag, I think it's not enough good. I'm a bit regret for that design, why I created like that. Too bad color. *sigh*. It's just ... because I just began to learn how to make with photo shop (started learning since 2003 ago as the same as my nephew born in 2003, too). All right, I'm trying to forget what I made and will try to make better again (Until now am still improving my photo shop skill).

When the baby is born, grandparents/parents announce about their grandchildren/parents baby birth. Their family, relatives, and friends come to hospital or house by giving a gift (depends on where baby stays). After one month later, grandparents/parents bring food or cake to their family, relatives, and friends.

Eggs dipped with red color.
Why red?
(I should figure it out)

Small red cake, eggs, piece of pork with sauce, and chicken.
It's identical to Chinese culture.

Written 1 BLN, it means one month.
Bought from bakery where sell so many variations of baby cake.
To respect for who doesn't eat pork, so this cake given to them.

An example of food which is identical to Javanese culture. Generally, Javanese (or Indonesian) give yellow rice, fried chicken, red eggs, and small red cake in box.

However, year by year, most Indonesians and Indonesians of Chinese descent want to be simple, so they buy cakes and then bring to their family, relatives, and friends. It's cheaper as well.

The traditional treat in Holland at the birth of a baby. White and pink aniseed if it is a baby girl and while and blue anissed when it is a boy

A really cute daughter of Green, Mara.
In Holland we treat everyone on "beschuit met muisjes" when a baby is born. So, Green's daughter and son took it to school. Green helped Mara serving those traditional pieces of dry bread.

In Canada, this blogger remember noticing so many Asian seniors take a walk with grandchildren; whereas, Canadian seniors take a walk with dogs. Yes, what Carrie said is totally true.

Next, in Indonesia, if this blogger isn't wrong, both of Indonesian daughters and sons (commonly, for who is Islamic) are expected to get rid of their parent's home, but sons of Indonesian of Chinese descent are generally expected to stay at home with their parents; whereas, daughters of Indonesian of Chinese descent should be away from their parent's home. However, year by year, sons of Indonesian of Chinese descent can choose to get out or not from their parent's home. It depends on sons, daughters, and parent's choice.

There are some grandpas and grandmas stay at the place for seniors. But generally, sons or daughters prefer their parents to stay at home with them. It's because they can't leave their parents to stay so far from them.

The places for seniors in Canada, this blogger sees, are much more luxury than in Indonesia. Maybe, it's why sons or daughters aren't willing to allow their parents to stay at the senior places (Luckily, this blogger visited to the senior places in Sentul that is close to Jakarta - Indonesia about 1.5-2 hours)

Canadian seniors can have their own room with their own computer, but not for Indonesian seniors, who share with others at their one bedroom. Also, there is a small salon, church, lift, ... ... ... how really luxury it is !! Wouw !!

However, not all Canadians are too selfish, there are still Canadians can be sweet or nice after getting angry.

Uh mm mm ... not only do Canadians get easily angry but they can also be too honest to express how they're feeling. They will let us know what they dislike from us, so that we won't do like that anymore.

"I think Indonesians are pretty introvert, not easily angry unlike Pinoys." says another Canadian friend.

Really, this blogger has no clue. It's just stereotypical, she assumes.

This is one thing this blogger's been thinking about and remembers some experiences.

"Well, I will ... (Sorry no details here)." says a Canadian friend of this blogger.

"It's okay. I don't mind ... (Sorry no details here)." says a Pinoy friend of her, who raised in Vancouver.

"Am sorry. I can't ... (Sorry no details here) because you're a big girl already." says another Canadian friend of her.

Yes, it depends, she supposes.
Of course, she was, honestly, a bit startled, but really happy for her friend being "slip of the tongue". And it surely made her to be determined to get know more about the gap culture between Canadians and Indonesians.

However, it can be true that Canadians are too much more independent than Indonesians. Not only about being a solo traveler, but Canadians are commonly expected to get accounts from a job after graduating in senior high school.

"I got out of my parent's home when I was 19 old year and then I looked for the job to get savings." says the Canadian friends.

It really differs .. not only Indonesians, but from Asians as well. Most of Asians get the job after graduating at college/university.

Now, another topic about being a solo traveler or traveling in a small group, this case really makes this blogger a bit perplexed what to comment. But she may should confess that Carrie is true for Carrie's observations.

However, year by year, there are some Indonesians like being a solo traveler or going traveling in a small group. It can be proved that a well-known Indonesian traveler named Trinity (unfortunately, it's a pseudonyms) who has been holding a meeting at malls to give her traveling experiences to guests.

In other stories, Half of Indonesians, who study, stay, or work everywhere such as North American and Europe, do really like to go traveling in a small group or be a solo traveler. This blogger assumes that it's because they have confidence enough to do by themselves (with their English skill, know how to get on transportations, accommodations, and so.)

Next, now this is about this blogger's experience, she'd be allowed to go traveling in North America, but not in south-east Asia. It's due to difference situation or condition. But when traveling in North America, she kept being careful and couldn't believe how really lucky she was then since so many strangers, who were kind enough to help her. Perhaps, it's because ... no details here.

Last, indeed, Indonesians have a little high solidarity. Bravo!!

Yes, generally, the whither skin considered by Indonesians is much more beautiful.

However, this blogger wanted to divide up into two parts are Indonesians and Indonesians of Chinese descent.

This blogger assumed that:

Indonesians are identical to Westerners; whereas, Indonesians of Chinese descent are identical to Chinese and Taiwanese.

How come?

Of course, as you know, most Indonesians have the dark skin, and then they may think they can't definitely change from the dark to the white skin. For who has the white skin from born, and then they get a bit tanned, but it can be changed from the dark to the white skin. So, most Indonesians of Chinese descent think that their skin can slowly be changed to white because they born with it.

Indonesians usually don't really care about being tanned because their skin is dark already, indeed. They rarely wear hats, long sleeves, and carry umbrellas.

It differs from Indonesians of Chinese descent, they do really care about their skin by wearing hats, long sleeves, and carrying umbrellas.

In other cases, models of Indonesians are usually expected not to be tanned so much, so it will look good with smooth and beautiful skin when they taken photo shots although photographers can use a big flash lamp or manipulate in photoshop.

But, basically, both of Indonesians and Indonesians of Chinese descent are obsessed with using a whitening products from face to body. There are so many whitening products sold anywhere.

Unbelievably, half of Indonesians of Chinese descent in North America (to study, stay, or work) don't usually really care about being tanned when they go to beach by wearing tank top and shorts, they just still use a sunblock, though.

Japanese friends of this blogger always bring umbrellas with their hands.

Most foreigners are a bit overwhelmed by the pushing and shoving that occurs in Chinese banks, train stations, bus stops, elevators and pretty much everywhere else you can think of. Last February, Beijing decided to clean up their act and announced a National Queue-Up Day once a month in an effort to get people to be more ‘well-mannered’ for the Beijing Olympics.

SUNDAYS ON THE ROAD

I didn’t realise how quiet Sundays are in Canada until I found myself downtown in the Byward Market on a Sunday afternoon. I was home for the first time in over a year and I remember being really freaked out. No cars. No pedestrians. It was quiet and tranquil. Then I thought of a typical Sunday afternoon in China and marveled at the differences. Very rarely did I ever find a place for myself on the weekend in China. If it was privacy I was looking for, I stayed within my own four walls.

THE CHILD

Family relationships in the East and West are very different. In the West, children are raised primarily by the parents, with grandparents playing less of a role in day-to-day life. In the East, both parents and grandparents are actively involved in raising children.

ANGER

When Westerners are unhappy, our emotions can be easily perceived through body language, facial expression and tone.

In Asia, it’s a little more difficult to tell how someone is feeling. Think about how often you hear what you think are two people arguing when in reality, they are just chatting loudly. In Western societies, we equate loud voices with anger and confrontation.

I’m sure many of us can relate to being angry at a given situation and having a Chinese boss smile and smile and smile as you rage on like a lunatic. The benefit of dealing with situations like these is learning how to react to stressful situations with less of an emotional outburst.

MAKING CONTACTS

Westerners tend to have very linear relationships, whereas Asians tend to have more circular relationships.

DEFINITION OF BEAUTY

In China and Taiwan, the whiter your skin, the more beautiful you are. In North America, the darker your skin, the more beautiful you are.

Case in point.

In Asia, most beauty products contain some sort of whitening agent for the skin. Women are obsessed with covering up. They wear hats, carry umbrellas on hot days and wear long sleeves to the beach. Most of my Chinese girlfriends wouldn’t be caught dead in the blistering hot sun at the beach.

In North America, many skin products are designed to produce a beautiful, golden tan. Think self-tanning lotions, bronzers and tinted moisterizers or hours and hours of sunbathing.

ELDERLY IN DAY-TO-DAY LIFE

The first thing that struck me as different when I moved to China were the number of seniors I’d see on the streets with young children. I thought it was really special to see Grandma and Grandpa out with the young ‘uns for the day. I still think it’s terrific.

Seniors in Eastern societies remain an integral part of the family. While sons and daughters are off making a living, Grandma and Grandpa stay at home to raise the grandchildren.

The role of a grandparent in North America is just as important, but an emphasis on independence also plays a major part in how seniors live their lives. The majority of seniors in Western societies are often on their own by their own choice. It’s uncommon to hear of parents living with their children.

IN THE RESTAURANT

Anyone who has ever been in a restaurant in Asia will surely chuckle at this one.

Westerners think in terms of me, me, me. Most Asians think of themselves as part of a larger sum.

HANDLING OF PROBLEMS

No doubt this one frustrates all Westerners living in Asia. I’m sure we frustrate Asians to no end with our own problem solving techniques.

Westerners tend to take the most direct approach to problem solving. Problem solving in Asia is a bit more complex. Often the most direct approach is ignored. Sometimes the problem is never dealt with.

If not, please go to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China (Remember, we're the same Asia). There has always been so much texts in those countries that we mentioned.

We're sick of being lonely because of no texts. The TV can be a friend for us when we want to relax without annoying others to ask translation of TV's programs.

Hey, lagi cari ide untuk merayakan pesta yang meriah? Kenapa tidak mencoba untuk mengadakan pesta dengan PINATA? Itu bakal seru dan menarik loh! Penasaran? Okay, di sini juga dijelaskan langkah-langkah tentang caranya permainan pesta pinata untuk outdoor maupun indoor, tergantung pilihan anda.

Sejarah tentang pinata masih simpang siur, tidak jelas pinata itu sebetulnya berasal darimana, karena ada yang bilang itu dari China, Eropa, Mexico, dll. Tapi pinata itu sangat terkenal di Mexico, banyak orang di sana pakai pinata itu di pesta. Tidak hanya di Mexico, negara lainnya seperti Canada, America pun masih pakai pinata tsb untuk FUN !

Pinata biasanya dilubangi ada 2 buah. Satu buat diisi permen, mainan kecil, dll. Dan satu lagi buat keluarin permen, mainan kecil bisa dipukul atau ditarik.

Pinata yang dilubangi untuk diisi tentunya dikasih tanda supaya pembeli bisa mengisi.

Permainan pesta Pinata untuk Outdoor

1. Pendahuluan

Pesta piñata pukulan yang didesain untuk di luar ruangan (outdoor) lebih cocok untuk anak-anak berumur 6 tahun ke atas karena permainan ini didesain dengan tongkat dan kain penutup.

Sebelum pesta dimulai, piñata sebaiknya diisi terlebih dahulu dengan berbagai macam permen atau hadiah kecil seperti penghapus, pensil, atau mainan kecil sehingga mudah untuk dimasukkan ke dalam pinata melalui lubang kecial yang telah disediakan.

2. Caranya permainan pesta pukulan piñata

Sebelum permainan dimulai, pastikan pinata digantung di tempat yang aman, sehingga ayunan pinata tidak mengenai orang maupun barang sekitarnya.

Kumpulkan pemain di daerah yang aman sekitar pinata.

Ketika gilirannya, pemain akan ditutup matanya, diputar tiga kali dan kemudian diberikan pemukul pinata.

Masing-masing pemain diberikan tiga pukulan sebelum pemain berikutnya mengambil alih (untuk membuat permainan pinata ini penuh tantangan, pinata dapat diayun ke atas dan bawah ketika pemain mencoba memukul pinata).

Ketika isi pinata keluar, izinkan pemain untuk meletakkan pemukul pinata terlebih dahulu sebelum semua pemain berlomba mengambil hadiah-hadiah di dalam pinata tersebut. (Tambahan hadiah dapat turut dilemparkan sehingga semua pemain bergiliaran mendapatkan hadiah).

3. Pemenang

Siapa yang telah mengumpulkan (contohnya permen) terbanyak, dialah yang pemenang. Sebagai bonus, piñata yang utuh dapat diperbaiki dengan mudah, disimpan sebagai kenang-kenangan pesta, atau dekorasi kamar anak.

Permainan pesta Pinata untuk Indoor

1. Pendahuluan

Pesta tarikan piñata didesain untuk anak-anak kecil, umumnya dibawah umur 6 tahun, agar dapat bermain dengan permainan yang aman (non-agresif) di dalam ruangan (indoor) maupun luar ruangan (outdoor).

2. Caranya Permainan Tarikan Pesta Pinata
Masing-masing pemain bergiliran menarik tali-tali pinata. Tali-tali tersebut akan putus atau membuka pintu rahasia untuk mengeluarkan isi pinata. PINATAS AREN'T VIOLENT

I was recently sent to a website that implied that piñatas foster violence. I read many of the testimonials about violent acts that occurred after piñata parties. I really feel bad for the people and animals who were injured.

I still do not think that piñatas are inherently violent. They are inanimate. I also do not think that they foster violence any more than the act of breaking open an egg fosters violence.

The problem lies with the presentation of the piñata game and the proper storage of the equipment for the piñata game. To be safe follow these guidelines:

1) I personally would not allow unsupervised access to a piñata buster.

2) I think that children below the age of 6 should be playing the pull string piñata game and not wielding piñata busters. At the age of 6 most children understand that it is wrong to hit people and animals. They also have the motor skills to avoid contact with animals or humans.

3) The piñata game should be presented as a game in itself. Like equipment for other games such as hockey sticks, baseball bats, tennis racket there is an appropriate use and inappropriate use. Teach the young people how to take care of their equipment and there will be fewer problems.

4) Always have at least one and preferably 3 people supervising the game and the equipment.

5) If anyone misuses the piñata buster or refuses to stay a safe distance from the person swinging at the piñata, I ALWAYS make them leave the game. I do not tolerate any instances where there is the potential for harm. Rules are meant to insure fun. If everyone obeys the rules the game is fun for everyone.

I believe that if you act responsibly, you will have a safe and fun piñata party.

Japanese Culture

Generally, a person who has a birthday, friends give him/her a box of chocolate or candy

First, take off our shoes. You are supposed to take off your shoes when you enter a Japanese home, and then put shoes which they’d be pointing toward the door when you leave without having to turn around.

Second, bring a gift to a Japanese home. It’s ok when you bring it in a plastic bag, but the gift itself has to be wrapped. What kinds of gift? Well, it can be a box of chocolates or flower.

Next, you shouldn’t leave half-eaten food on a plate because it’s considered impolite. If you’ve got to eat everything that’s offered to you, you don’t have to, but if you take something, you must finish it.

Fourth, you aren’t allowed to enter to a kitchen due to the rules of Japanese culture (but Japanese friends of mine told that they’re embarrassed that their kitchen is messy).

Last, no tip when you’re at restaurant, café, etc.

Inspired by other bloggers who were participated in “What’s in Her Bag” series, but am also thinking of there has been or not yet a part of the “What’s in Your Room”. Maybe I just have no clue where it is. Well, honestly, there is one thing which always encourages me to be a part of the “What’s in Your Room” is my sister’s friend who confessed on her blog “My six weird facts” that she likes checking out other people’s bedrooms. Yes, I think I do so: p. How embarrasing, I know !! Therefore, I suggest that we’re going to participate in “Express Yourself with Room”. It’s interesting, isn’t it? If you’re interested in playing on that, those will be appreciated. I’ll be happy. Also, am sure others will be enthusiast to take a look at your rooms or even express themselves.

By the way, I wanted to remind you that you can express yourself with room, it can be a bedroom, working room, kitchen, living room, or whatever that interest you. It’s up to you.

I chose to express myself with my working room because I don’t have my own bedrooms. *sigh*. I just can’t do my works/hobbies without AC (Air Conditioner) – my country is hot, humid! Also, I can’t stand doing things with my bed; it won’t be great for my achievement of my works/hobbies.

All right, let’s take a look at my working room.

This is actually sewing machine that I'm using as a table.

Used for my hobbies (craft, drawing, etc).

Still not understand why I chose that color :p. I used to like collecting cards which taken in malls. Sadly, my card collections had been removed (although I kept them in box neatly) when I was at another planets. *sigh*

Hooked on using Skin Food beauty from Korea, I think :p

Instead of keeping stuff inside drawer, being hanged above AC.

Stuff I bought is actually for pencil hanger. Have been always looking for cheap small stuff for birthday cake.

That's the advantage of having small brothers and sisters; you are still allowed to put your shoe next to those of the small kids. But Vivo (pseudonyms) has to sing along to do so.

Tonight Black Pete will probably come by our house to fill up the shoe with pepper nuts, chocolate and some small presents. Today at school Zahra (pseudonyms) was disappointed because only the Messy Pete had come by the night before and he made a mess of the classroom, without leaving anything behind in her shoe, she specially took with her to school for that purpose.

On the photo Pipit (pseudonyms), Zahra and Vivo sing a few of the most popular Sinterklaas songs. Well, Vivo tried to sing and x-rated version, but Pipit and Zahra wanted her to stop, Black Pete was probably already outside and could hear’s song, which would definitely mean nothing in their shoes tomorrow morning!

In Switzerland, Sinterklass (Saint-Nicolas) and Black Pete (Père Fouettard) are comming the 6th of December .They doesn't have the Rudolph to go in all country at the same time ... not like Santa Claus (Père Noël) .. ;-)

Sam'place, yes it's Sinterklaas'birthday on the 6th of December, but from the day he arrives in Holland, that's two weeks ago, you are allowed to put your shoe every night. Well, our kids are allowed to do it once or twice per week. But on 5th of December, Presents-night we call it, then you get the big load of stuff. It's of course all commercial motives that have introduced these shoe-nights goya.

But Sinterklaas is NOT santa or his helper. It's an old Turkish bishop celebrating his birthday on the 6th of December. That's the Day of the Holy Nicolaas, Sint Nicolaas as Sinterklaas is also named. The name Santa Claus was taken by the Coca Cola people from our Sinterklaas for their idea for a red dressed Christmas figure. But Sinterklaas has nothing to do with Christmas. Have a look at the photos in the pool Sinterklaas, next to the photo. All Dutch and maybe some Belgian photographs of this Sinterklaas.

Actually, I'm not really sure what "Ikan lele" should be translated in English, but according to my country dictionary, it means “Freshwater Catfish ".

My mother: I don't like freshwater catfish.
Me: Why?
My mother: I just don't really like it.

I was confused and thought it was natural, not all people like it. I really like to eat it. How yummy it is, hehe

A few years ago, my senior high friends and I went to Central Java for 3 nights 4 days to experience how to live in village (it looks like home stay) because I'm growing up in a quite big city. I was just curious about what life was like. I remember what things made me want to go home early are because there was no electric at night. Really can’t bear, sigh! There was no bathroom as well, but it was closed by wood without using ceiling. Although, it’s been closed by a big tree, I was still paranoid. There were so many freshwater catfishes inside.

One day my host father told that freshwater catfishes generally eat feces (feces from people's feces).

Me: Ah! (surprised)
My host father: Yes

Ooh, it seemed that I figured out why my mother didn't like eating it. When I got home, I told a story to my mother.

“Yeah, you're right. Get it. That's why I don't like it. It's disgusting! “said my mother.

Although it’s so, until now I still like eating it. If I want to ask my mother to buy me the freshwater catfishes in a market, unfortunately, she refused instead of asking me to go eat out. Hehe. I remember when my cousin got home from Germany; freshwater catfish was a must first food for her. Hehe.

Notes: In Canada, my roommate and I accidentally found freshwater catfish (U$ 7 with tax for 6 pieces) in Chinatown, cooked, and ate. How miss so bad we were then!

Well, perhaps I should emphasize “naked” that has some meanings.

One of the meanings (depends on situation):

Naked can be used to talk about strong feelings that are not hidden: naked fear (7^th edition. Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary)

That book is very actually personal, but also very informative and critic. Yes, I really agree and really hope that Indonesian governments become more environmentally aware, more aware of maintaining facilities, and the like to develop better for tourism.

Not only is it informative and critic, but it is also amusing and entertaining. However, it’s a pity that English version is unavailable.

That book written by Trinity, unfortunately, Trinity’s name isn’t a real name. She’s an Indonesian backpacker, who has been blogging. You can check out at Naked Traveler

All right, I will try making some notes what Trinity writes, thinks, feels, etc.

In October 2000, An Aussie man from Sydney wanted to give a very crazy gift which Trinity can’t get in Indonesia. It’s a Nude Beach. “What?” she’s shocked.

The Aussie man put off and jumped into beach. Trinity’s mouth fell open while she’s thinking of being naked or not. “Don’t care. Let’s swim!” begged the man. She slowly put off her clothes and swam, finally.

As written in a web: “If you are an outdoor person visiting Sydney, a trip to Obelisk Beach is highly recommended". Does u dare to that challenge?

(This blogger reminds: As everyone knows that it’s about different culture, norm, custom, etc. It’s unusual in Asia)

Trinity has own opinions such as:

MITONI or A Ritual for Seven Months of Pregnancy (a bit similar to Baby Shower)

Sadly, I forgot what password (How bad I’m, I know :p). When I watched baby shower on party planner with David Tutera’s TV program, I decided to search on the internet (Perhaps, I’m kinda interested in different cultures over the world). According to Javanese custom, mitoni means ceremony and feast given for a woman seven months pregnant with her first baby. The reason is that the woman who is pregnant with her baby can get for safety.

Mitoni can’t be held from time to time, but is usually chosen day which is considered as “ Good Day “ to hold mitoni ceremony. Better hold mitoni ceremony is Tuesday or Friday at noon or in the early evening.

Mitoni ceremony is usually held by person who professionally holds for pregnancy ceremonial or one family who is considered as oldest person.

Mitoni Ceremony consist of :
1.Sungkeman
2.Siraman (Pour water)
3.Put egg in cloth
4.Brojolan ceremony
5.Dressing-up
6.Cut cord
7.Drop water dipper
8.Drink jamu (Drink herb)
9.Nyolong endhong (Steal egg)

Seven people family who are oldest will pour water over mother-to-be and also give her seven things. The following things are:

The purpose is that pregnancy is supposed to be able to run smoothly.

Mitoni 3 - Put Egg in Cloth -

The father-to-be puts egg in mother-to-be cloth from above stomach to below by dropping that egg. It means that baby can easily be born without being breech. If egg isn’t broken, it means they will have a baby boy. If so, it means a baby girl.

The father-to-be will pick one coconut without looking at coconut Kamajaya or Dewi Ratih who are an ideal figure for Javanese are drawn. If he takes Kamajaya, it means that they will have the baby boy. If Dewi Ratih, they have the baby girl.

Mitoni 7 - Cut Cord -

Keris

Cut cord of coconut leaf which is wrapped around mother-to-be stomach. That cord must be cut by father-to-be by using a keris. This action depicts the smooth birth of the baby.

Mitoni 8 - Drop Water Dipper -

Drop water dipper which is made from piece of coconut shell. It is done by father to-be. It means that gives prayer and wish for good luck - If mother wants to have children again, they both expect that mother’s pregnancy still can easily run someday –

According to my cousin experience, she gave a birth to her daughter. Everyday she wakes up in the morning; she keeps spreading her saliva to her daughter's eyebrows. The reason she spreads is that her daughter's eyebrows can be shaped curve, so that her daughter won't have any difficulty later. I mean that her daughter doesn't need to spread her eyebrows by using eyebrow pencil.

I don't know whether I must believe it or not.

When a baby is born, her / his umbilical cord should be cut and then spread soon on her / his lip (mostly for a girl). It is Javanese ritual (If I'm not wrong) and symbolizing the hopes that she doesn't need to spread her lip by using a lipstick due to her lip has been red enough.

After the umbilical cord is cut, it is usually done strangely. It depends on the parent's request. Half the parent prefers to throw it away at lake or plant it with pencil and needle at land everywhere. Actually it is usually done by the hospital people. Half the parent prefers to bring and throw it away at garbage by themselves because they don't believe anything else. The reason they ask the hospital people to throw it away at lake is that the baby is supposed to be smart at arithmetic. If they plant it with pencil and needle, it means that the baby is supposed to be a creative person.

I don't believe at all since my big bro and little sis are good at arithmetic although their umbilical cord were plant at land.

Take a shower together with other women. No Way!

“I heard that American women are naked when they are taking a shower with other women. It is right, isn’t it? “, a best friend of writer asks to this writer.

“Yeah, I also have heard it, but I’m not sure cuz I have never experienced like that “, writer answers.

Accidentally, she found a great blog of Indonesian woman, who likes writing, named Loucee. According to Loucee’s experience, she went to play badminton with two Perancis women, one Belanda woman, and one Glasgow woman. After that, she was asked why she didn’t take a shower and she answered that she didn’t have a plan to take a shower. Actually, before badminton, she had first observed at shower room where all shower cubicles in row arrangements. They are without curtains and separated with only transparent boards between one cubicles and the other. So that, she decided not to take a shower there as she didn’t feel comfortable being naked together with other women.

Well, most Indonesian women feel uncomfortable being naked together with other women.
“Why?” (Just in case these readers ask and curious)

Hmm.. This writer is actually not sure and a bit perplexed what should answer this question.

But Loucee assumed, “That’s Asian thing “.

Will she be asked whether she wants to be naked together with other women or not?
NO WAY AH !!! She does just feel uncomfortable. Hehe.

One day she went to kayaking course at PAC, U of S. There are almost all shower rooms have door, so she could take a shower without feeling scared and was so comfortable then. Hehe.

Her sister told that she looked at Canadian women were naked when they were taking a shower together after swimming at U of M. In contrast, this writer forgot whether her sister has been naked when taking a shower with other women or not at all.

Hah, yeaahh !!

In class in the afternoon …

“She has a great vocabulary and grammar, so please you all help each other “Devon says to his students. She was actually not overwhelmed then, but she really hated and thought that he needn’t have said like that.

Not long time later, her friend and she talked about how Devon could get a PR (Permanent Residence) in Canada (Devon is American- Iowa) and then her friend told that he was a gay.

Hah, really?
How do you know? She says to her friend.
She was just very surprised.

When Devon taught her how to pronounce in English, it was ok for her because she thought that he won’t have any feeling with a girl. Hehe. Winks. She really appreciated for his helping. She will never forget how really kind he was since he volunteered to her.

She remembers that he used to ask to his students to help her or help each other. Of course, she knows why he did.

Now, she is reading Love, Ellen. A Mother / Daughter Journey book – Writer is Betty DeGeneres. She knows who Ellen is, but she isn’t a fan of her who has a talk show on TV. She was just curious about what Ellen’s mother thinks, feels, and hopes. It is all she wanted to know.

DeGeneres (1999) states, “ ...... , I have such a hard time understanding those who don’t support laws to protect the rights of gay citizens on the job and their right to live safely where they choose, without the fear of being fired or evicted simply because they’re gay “ (p. 32).

Also, she remembers she asked something to Titi (Titi and Devon were her teacher on level 30), and Titi answered yes. After a little long conversation, she said “Poor him “. But Titi disagreed. “No, no poor. Devon is really happy. He has a great soul mate. I know them “says Titi.

It made her to be open minded about gay and lesbian people. She was getting used to adjusting already about it.

Due to DeGeneres’s autobiography, she then really appreciated what DeGeneres thinks, feels, and hopes. Gay and Lesbian people are the same as her. Lots of another people can’t accept who they are. They also have lots of dreams, but she thinks that gay and lesbian people are much luckier than her since they can easily still get a job.

They can hear. They can speak.
They can listen to music, news, and the like.
They can easily expand their connection without being lonely because they can speak.

Devon is now in Portugal to study a language. After that, he will be back to teach as usual in Saskatoon if she is not wrong. He is so lucky, she thinks.

Thanks to God. Please, strengthen her all the time.

Hugging is actually not a Canadian tradition

One day, she got an email from her friend.

“ …. Yes, hugging is common in Canada, but if we are really good friends and you can trust that person. Actually a lot of Canadian people don’t hug and we never used to when we were younger. Then one day a really close friend of ours died in a plane crash it was so sad he left a 2 year old boy and a wife alone since that death we now hug our friends and family for us to shows that we love them and hope they will be safe till our next visit. So hugging isn’t really a Canadian tradition, but … “

Actually, she thought hugging was the Canadian tradition before. When her roommate’s friend wanted to go home, he asked her to hug him as her roommate hugged him as well, but she refused. It depends on how people behave politely or not. If they don’t behave politely or even behavior that make her scared. He shouldn’t have played physical with her roommate in front of her because it was her first time to meet him, not for her roommate. Yeah, maybe it is because she was surprised by that attitude for the first time or even she didn’t get used to looking at their physical playing. Therefore, she thought that he seemed to be like playing physical with girls and then it surely made her scared and just wanted to be careful because of the first situation.

After she asked for her friend’s advice and now she understood that hugging was common in Canada indeed, but it doesn’t mean that it is the tradition.

She remembers that she used to look accidentally at a little girl and boy kissed on their lip (not French-kiss) at the airport. Also, she looked at an uncle and niece kissed each other on their lip (not French-kiss) at the church. That is very weirdo for her although she can understand why they did like that. She has never kissed on her lip with her father, brother, uncle, or cousins. She just usually hugs and kisses on the cheek. However, that isn’t done by Japanese with their parents except the Japanese children.

Her sister’s boyfriend and she have known since two years ago, they know each other very well, too. Strangely, they never have hugged each other although they are the same place. Of course, this may be sounds very weirdo for Canadians, too. It is right, isn’t it?

In other words, the best friend of her (boy) and she have known since they were in junior high school in 1992 and they didn’t meet for 8 years. When she visited to Vancouver and made an appt to meet her best friend. They first hugged for the first time because of very long time no meet. Does it sound weirdo for Canadians?

By contrast, when she was in Vancouver, she met so many people who come from different countries. They hugged each other although they met for the first or second time. All right, she wouldn’t mind hugging with them because they behaved well, not to make her scared.

So, she is actually not anti – hug!!!

Asian and Canadian Women

A Canadian man: “Asian women take care much more than Canadian women.”

Writer: " Ah, really?” (She can't believe with eye-wide)

A Canadian man: “My wife rarely takes care of me. Me, either. "

Writer: “Ooh.” (She still can't believe)

Until now, she is still wondering why and trying to observe however she gets. It can be from her friends' experience, opinions, etc. Actually, she can't agree with what the Canadian man said. However, she also doesn't have many observations enough yet. In addition, she doesn't stay in home stay with the Canadians. Sometimes, she wishes she could stay with them, but she just likes freedom and independence.

She tried to remember what she has got from her friends or whoever.

Here are some stories that she got.

1st Example

(The other Canadian man and writer talked about everything including the Asian and Canadian women. He has dated with his Asian girlfriend before. His brother and cousins have the Asian wife as well)

The other Canadian man: “I prefer to have the Asian girlfriend or wife."

Writer: “Why?”

The other Canadian man: “I like because the Asian girls are petite."

Writer: “Ugh!” (She was actually not satisfied by that answer)

Then

Writer: “I heard that the Asian women take care much more than Canadians. Do you agree with it? "

The other Canadian man: “Yes, it's true”

Writer: “Why do you think it? Why don't Canadian women take care much more with their boyfriend or husband? "

The other Canadian man: “You’d better ask to other Canadian women why.”

Writer: “Ugh!”

(Unfortunately, this writer hasn't asked to Canadian women yet.)

2nd Example

(This writer has her cousin who has an American soldier. They got to know each other when they stayed in Germany. Right now, her cousin's husband is working in Seoul for his task. Her cousin and two children sometimes go back and forth from - to Indonesia and Korea)

Writer: “Why did your husband want to marry to Asian women?”

Her cousin: " Yeah, because he's always wanted to have the Asian women, indeed.”

Writer: “Has he ever dated with other Asians before getting married with you?”

Her cousin: “Yes.”

(Unfortunately, she does still not get many details why her cousin's husband chooses the Asian woman)

3rd Example

According to other blogs of Indonesian people that non-Asian men like the Asian women because they want to be treated 100% by the Asian women.

4th Example

(One day a Japanese friend of this writer complains because she doesn't have a clue what to do while she goes to her boyfriend's parent’s home. Her Japanese friend's bf isn't Japanese. She just feels nervous about that)

Writer: “Why can't you take care of your bf?”

Japanese friend: “What is it like?”

Writer: “Oh, it's very easy task. You can just prepare food; make tea or coffee for your bf or whatever. Get it? "

Japanese friend: “To be honest, I rarely take care of my bf, but my bf always takes care of me.”

Writer: " Ah, really? How really lucky you are because I usually take care of, but it doesn't matter."

Japanese friend: “Yes, you're a good girl.”

Writer: " No, no, not really.” Then bla .. bla .. bla ...

Japanese friend: “Ooh, really, you're bad girl. Very brat!! "

(Both of them laugh loudly)

5th Example

This is writer's own observation. Actually, writer doesn't think the Asian women take care much more than the Canadian women because her sister and sister-in-law seldom take care of her bf and husband. Thankfully, her brother never complains about his wife. Maybe it's because they have a maid in their home, so he can ask for help from his maid to prepare the foods. Her sister and sister's bf are good at cooking although it isn't their hobby. If they have time, sometimes, they both learn how to cook which is related to books of International food -- her sister was inspired by her friend, who likes writing the blog, to try to eat and learn to cook. This writer thinks that maybe because she was taught so early to take care of things. In her previous dormitory, her friends and she were eight years old who have been taught to take care of their house-work, such as wash dishes, wash bathroom, take a bath for their junior friends, sweep, prepare foods, and so much.

6th Example

An Indonesian roommate of this writer doesn't really take care of her household, but her roommate is a good cooker than writer, hehe. Luckily, they don't have any problems about their house-work, because her roommate doesn't mind whether writer takes care of their household. Writer just wants everything must be neat. However, writer's sister is much neater than her, hahaha.

So, in sum, not all the Asian takes care more. They are the same as other women no matter where they come from because this writer can't be forced to accompany others all the time. This writer also has her own time spending whatever she wants sometime. Additionally, she wants to get a balance for her life. This life can be boring while doing or going with others all the time. Ho ho ho ho ....

For Canadian women, please not to feel bad what the Canadian men said.

Celebration on the eve AFTER a wedding

Oh it is like Midodareni!
Well, midodareni does mean Celebration on the eve before a wedding which is usually done in Indonesia.

But how about Canada?
It really differs from Indonesia. It is usually held the eve after the wedding.

(Talking)
A: “Do u want to go to Abb with me? “
B: “For what? “
A: “For my cousin’s wedding celebration, but we go there just to eat because they got married already yesterday. Don’t u mind coming with me? “
B: (thinking ‘n hesitating) “Well, when? What time? “
A: “I will let u know on the MSN. It is okay? “
B: (still thinking ‘n hesitating due to some reasons). Nod of the head

(Get on A’s car to Abb -- not real city name -- 'n reach A’s cousin’s home 'n greeted to eat, talk)
B: “Why weren’t u invited to come to ur cousin’s wedding yesterday, but to come here to eat? “
A: “ … (long story). In Canada, most couple invites people to come to eat after they got married. “
B: (surprised) “Hah? It really differs from my country – Indonesia. Indonesians usually do it before getting married. I don’t like this Canadian style. It could be tiring “(shake of the head)
A: “Yes, I think so. “

PS: A European friend of mine said that in Europe was the same as Canada ‘n doesn’t like that style. It’s tiring.

So, which one you like, after or before?
I think I prefer before.
